Exhibition  « Saint-Etienne changes design,  French capital of design » .

From 2nd of April till 12th of September 2016 at BASE Milano (ex Ansaldo) Zona Tortona next to the MUDEC (Museum of Cultures) – Within the framework the XXI International Exhibition Triennale di Milano  “Design after Design”

To answer the topic  “Design after Design”,  the Cité du design Saint-Etienne conceived an exhibition presenting an UNESCO creative city of Design. The exhibition “Saint-Etienne changes design” demonstrates  the shift of an industrial city that, despite the crises, invents new development driving forces. It is a changing city that innovates, experiments and enhances the living conditions of the local population, facilitates the co-creation and transforms its territory in a living laboratory thanks to design.

The Triennale di Milano selected Saint-Etienne to represent France for the XXIst Triennale International exhibition, a flagship event relaunched in 2016 after a 20 year break.

The expo is co-curated by Olivier Peyricot, Director of  Research Department at Cité du design and Eric Jourdan, Head of Design Department at Saint-Etienne Higher School of Art and Design, it expresses the strengths of a city of ambition in a  250m² space laid out by Eric Jourdan:

    • The Cité du Design and the design policy developed by the City via numerous projects, photos, videos and urban furniture, results of the confluence of creators and the know-how of local companies
    • The theme of the next Saint-Etienne International  Design Biennial of 2017 on “shifting work paradigms”
    • The proposals of students from the design option of the Higher School of Art and Design of Saint-Etienne in response to the project “After Fukushima” put forward by the Centre of Scientific, Technical and Industrial Culture (CCSTI) called F93 and  located in Montreuil.

Human Cities_Challenging the City scale is one of the projects shown in the Cité du design activities section of this exhibition. It’s also interesting to note that the “Human Cities exhibition/ Milano”   and “Saint-Etienne changes design”  exhibitions will be presented in the same location during the Milan Design Week (12th -17th April 2016), with connected topics  and moments between the 2 events.
