Susana Gonzaga
She earned a Phd in Design at Politecnico di Milano, under the theme of Design Museums and Design Cultural System. She is a higher education teacher for 20 years now and a Designer freelancer. She is the Design Program Director at Art & Design Department of University of Madeira (PT); Coordinator of the Design Research group Peripheries – ID+ Research Unit, and co-founder of the Atlantic Wonder research project. Her research interests are focused on HCD applied to Spatial Design, Nature and Museology.
Pau Pascual
His research work focused on the aspect of the human condition, present mainly in cinematographic narrative, avant-garde music video and author animation, stands out. Currently, he works as an assistant professor of Art and Audio-visual Media in the Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of Madeira, Portugal. PhD in Visual and Intermediate Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain. Official member of the research group The Research Institute for Design, Media, and Culture ID+ University of Aveiro, University of Porto and the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave, Portugal. In the professional field, he has been the director of independent productions aimed at experimentation, as well as he has made documentaries for Catalonia Television TV3 and The National School of Film Arts, UNAM, Mexico. In his filmography, a poetic style marked by memory and anthropology dominates. Selections, awards at various international festivals, shows and exhibitions.
Luísa Freitas
She is a freelance designer who completed her Master's degree in Spatial Design at the University of Madeira, presenting the thesis "lnvolvement of children in commercial public spaces. Design a mobile entertainment device", where she explored new perspectives and projects combining graphic design and spatial design. Previously, she graduated in Design from the same institution, laying the groundwork for her career in the field of design. ln addition to her academic qualifications, she contributed as a University Lecturer in the category of Guest Assistant at the University of Madeira.
Elisa Bertolotti
She works with storytelling, moving image and communication design. With a Ph.D and postdoc from Politecnico di Milano, Elisa is currently teaching design at the University of Madeira, Portugal. She is co-founder of the Atlantic Wonder research project, focusing on alternative methods for learning outdoors and developing new ways to foster innovation between design and the natural sciences. She explores the ways in which interdisciplinary collaboration between practice and research can enrich the culture and philosophy of designers.
Sara Patrícia Abreu
She is currently working towards earning her Master’s degree in Interactive Media Design at University of Madeira. Her thesis focuses on empowering children with creative, innovative, and computational skills through design.
She hopes her academic work contributes positively and effectively to the empowering of future generations through design.
She has been working under Prof. Susana Gonzaga PhD guidance in the SMOTIES project and the GIDE project.
Valentina Vezzani (former team member)
She earned a PhD in Design, and a MSc in Service Design. She is Assistant Professor in Design at University of Madeira. Her research and teaching interests are in the field of strategic design, service design, sustainable development, social innovation and collaborative processes and tools. She is co-founder of Paco Design Collaborative and co-founder of Atlantic Wonder research project.
