The project:
Joaveski is located in the Lahemaa National Park and became best known as an industrial village with a hydroelectric power station (1898) and a cardboard factory. The numerous factory buildings in particular preserve the last century of cultural history, which is why they are included in the state register of cultural monuments. In addition to the labelling of important places in Joaveski, the collaboration between SMOTIES and residents results in the artistic and historical processing, improvement, and development of local hiking trails. By working with local historian Sten, valuable stories and data have been preserved. The work on the Joaveski residential home / Studio Joaveski has allowed two outbuildings of the former factory to be upgraded and used for various purposes. Together with SMOTIES, the town would also like to implement an international exchange programme.
