Better City Better Life: Marin Kasimir
Better City, Better Life is the third work Kasimir devotes to the phenomenon of World Fairs; in the instance, the Shanghai World Fair of 2009/10.
All three works in this series explore the kinship between the panorama, as a photographic medium, and the visitors to the Fairs. The first allows one to bring together in a single image the many differences that surround us, and which are represented in Fairs: different nations, cultures, pavilions, colours, and architectural styles. The second, the visitors who come from all over the world, have made Fairs their meeting point for more than 150 years.
Shot over the course of four trips to the Shanghai World Fair, the panoramic images document the construction of the Fair and the countless scaffolds and construction sites that turned the city upside down. With his images, Kasimir paints an exceptional portrait of this Chinese metropolis, and of the largest World Fair held to date.
